Vegetables 2009

The photo on the left shows a closeup of corn pollination. I don't know exactly what's going on here, but I've circled the main characters and don't have much time — it's August after all — to research this, so here's a link fromU of Wisconsin that might suffice.

August is when the bounty truly begins. We are enjoying tomatoes, squash, onions, melons, beans and corn.

First vegetable crop — Asparagus

Not much green showing yet. This is the asparagus bed that we fertilized and mulched in March. At that time the asparagus was not showing above ground.

We've had 50mph winds since this cardboard was soaked and semi-buried. If it's not in the next farm by now we'll call this experiment a success.
