Mesa Winds Farm Grains
Triticale 2009 |

![]() Karla and Wink examine the field where we've removed orchard brush piles. There's lots to be done before seeding in March. |
![]() We collect and burn prunings in the spring. It's also when we can burn the tree carcasses without obtaining a permit from the sheriff's office. |
![]() Old and deep furrows remain after chisel plowing so we will have to disk several times. |
![]() After disking, the ground is leveled to take out the low spots where water will sit and spoil the crop. |
![]() Wink loads the seed drill. |
![]() The sun comes out and the seed goes in! |
In a couple of weeks, the triticale is up and we have furrowed and laid gated pipe for irrigation. |
We are furrow irrigating, the only place left on the farm that doesn't have drip or micro-sprinklers installed. This is the scene in late May. |
Mid-July and the triticale is heading out to harvest in September. This field is truly beautiful! |
